Working Artificials

Capt. Joe Rodriguez of Miami was asked, "What is the one thing you see your clients do, that you wishes they won't."

Without hesitation he said, "They stop working the bait when a fish is after it."

It's unrealistic for a natural bait that is being chased by a predator to stop and wait to get eaten. If you see a fish following your fly or lure and not committing to it, stopping your bait will not make them strike. You need to vary your retrieve, shorter more erratic movement or longer more methodical strokes may put that fish in an eating mood. Just remember, keep working that bait and don't let it stop.
